My story
My writing is rooted in memory, history and the natural world, with a particular sensitivity to women’s lives, family bonds and the stories carried through the matrilineal line. Across novels, short stories and radio, my work combines atmosphere, emotional depth and a strong sense of place, drawing readers and listeners into worlds shaped by mystery, inheritance, adventure and connection.
I grew up in the countryside of mid-Kent with a view of the North Downs in the distance. Much of my childhood was spent outdoors in the fields and orchards around our rural village and in the meadows of my grandparents’ nearby farm. Those landscapes continue to shape my imagination, along with an interest in peoples’ lives, a lifelong love of the natural world, reading and storytelling.
I returned to education as an adult and became the first woman in my large family to go to university — something I remain deeply grateful for, especially those who encouraged me to go. I read English Literature at the University of Kent before completing a PGCE at Christ Church University, Canterbury, so I could become an English Teacher, eager to share my enthusiasm for literature and creative writing with others.
Since moving to the Cotswolds in 2005, I have gained a MA in Creative Writing from Oxford Brookes University and have taught English and Creative Writing in Cirencester and the surrounding areas; living on the Oxfordshire / Gloucestershire border means I can cover a wide area.
I run creative writing workshops and offer one-to-one tutorials for writers at all levels. Whether you are taking your first steps, looking for inspiration, developing your craft or editing a manuscript to a professional standard, I aim to create a supportive space where writers can grow in confidence and creativity.
